Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley (WSBV) has developed the Teacher Externship Program to bring teachers and companies together to collaborate and develop a pipeline for a future skilled workforce. The purpose is to provide valuable and meaningful industry insight to teachers which will assist in preparing students not just for work, but for developing plans and skills to meet their future workforce goals.
High School and Middle School teachers, counselors, and administrators are invited to take part in an Externship that will not exceed four days (32 hours) during the summer months of June, July, and August. Participants will be paid a stipend of $500-$700 per Externship. Teachers, counselors, and administrators will develop or augment lesson plans that help students contextualize curriculum to utilize specific skills that will aid them as they prepare to enter the labor force and give them a glimpse of career pathways.
Companies not only get an opportunity to showcase their industry, they make a positive impact on the Brazos Valley community by helping to develop responsible, well-trained young adults. The participant is able to take their experience and apply what they learned in a contextualized manner to lessons taught in the classroom.
